In just a few weeks, a new Miss USA will be crowned right here on FOX Carolina.  The pageant airs on Monday, May 21 at 8 p.m., and Upstate native Tori Sizemore will be proudly representing South Carolina on stage!

Tori's life isn't just about dressing up and doing pageants, though. She's got a heart for giving back.  The 22-year-old was crowned Miss South Carolina last fall.

She's competed at local and state pageants since she was 16-years-old and says she's always been supported by her big family.  In fact, she's one of seven kids!

“They've been really supportive," said Tori. "They've seen how it's positively impacted me and they've allowed me to share our whole family story which has been really great in impacting other people regarding fostering and adopting.”

Tori's three youngest siblings were all adopted, and she's made it her mission to educate the public about the issue and need in the state.

“One of the main reasons I like to do the pageants is I really want to be an advocate for foster parent adoption.  I have three biracial sisters who were adopted, two were adopted through the foster care system so we've seen the struggles and we've seen the beauty and the wonderful effect of foster care.”

Tori says right now she's looking ahead to the Miss USA competition later this month.  She'll be leaving May 9 for rehearsals.

We asked Tori if she's nervous for the big on-stage moments.

“Excited and anxious, I have found out, are the same emotion," said Tori. "You just have to figure out how you're channeling them, positively or negatively.”

She also had some insight for those who may think pageants are just about beauty queens.

“Everyone has a life experience, a story," said Tori. "The people who take that and do something with it and use it to improve other people's lives who are experiencing it, those are the girls competing in Miss USA.”
