Greenville Co. coroner identifies motorcyclist killed after striking stopped dump truck

GREER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers said a motorcyclist has died after an early morning collision in Greenville County. 

The incident occurred on Highway 14 near Highway 80 at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday

According to troopers, the motorcyclist was traveling north on Highway 14 when he struck the rear of a stopped dump truck. 

Troopers said the truck fled the scene of the accident. The driver of the dump truck, 52-year-old Khalid Mohamed-Ahmed Mahmoud, was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene involving death, troopers said. 

The coroner identified the motorcyclist as 37-year-old Courtney Demarist Johnson of Greer.  Troopers said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Johnson died at the scene from blunt force trauma, the coroner said. 

The crash remains under investigation by the coroner's office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
