ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville City Schools announced Tuesday that schools will close on May 16 so educators can attend a rally in Raleigh if they choose.

During the rally, demonstrators will call for a pay increase, more classroom resources, more per pupil expenditure, and school safety, the school district said.

The school district said students should not report to class on May 16 unless they’re scheduled to take an Advanced Placement Test on that day.

Below is the full statement from the school district.
