SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said a man is facing dozens of child sex charges after an investigation tipped off by Facebook.

Deputies said Facebook discovered criminal activities on their servers and contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The center alerted South Carolina's Internet Crimes Against Children task force, who launched an investigation in 2017.

According to arrest warrants, 34-year-old Brandon Ray McKern used social media to communicate with minor children and between October and November 2017, he obtained sexually-explicit photos and videos of the victim.

He is also accused of sexually assaulting and committing a lewd act upon a child who was between the ages of 11 and 14 in January of 2018.

He is charged with 25 counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, 10 counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and 3 counts of third-degree criminal sexual exploitation of a minor.

McKern is being held at the Oconee County Detention Center on a $870,000 surety bond. Further charges are pending in the case.

Deputies said the investigation is ongoing and there may be more victims. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Oconee County Sheriff's Office at 864-638-4111.
