GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials confirmed on Wednesday that a lawsuit filed against the Greenville Health System is being settled.

South Carolina lawmakers filed the suit against GHS in 2016, contesting the health system's restructuring plan.

Rep. Garry Smith said the GHS Board was not acting the public's best interest with a “plan to give away a six billion dollar public asset to newly formed private corporations."

The details of the settlement have not been released, but GHS spokesperson Sandy Dees said, "We are grateful that this lawsuit has been resolved."

Attorney James Carpenter, who represents the plaintiffs, said he and a GHS lawyer have agreed on a settlement but have not yet drawn up documents or reached any terms.
