OCONEE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials with Oconee County Schools say the district and County Council are working to hire more School Resource Officers at area schools.

According to the district, they are committed to hiring enough officers so that all the schools in the district to have their own assigned SRO.

Currently, the district says they have 9 SROs.

Once budgets are approved for next year, the district said they'll have another 9 officers. The district will pay for 2 of the new SROs, and the county will pay for 7.

The district has 16 traditional schools and 2 alternative schools. Currently, the district said all middle and high schools have their own SRO, however the elementary schools have had to share and the alternative schools do not have officers at all.

All of the School Resource Officers will be managed by the Sheriff's Office, according to district officials.
