Tropical moisture to bring lots of Carolina rain

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

We’re in for quite a weather pattern change over the next week as we transition from hot and sunny to tropical and rainy.

This is all because of a low pressure system over the Gulf of Mexico that will slowly move north and as it does, will pump in more and more rain. The rain potential increases substantially toward Wednesday and Thursday as the remnants of that low inch closer to the area.

Even though tropical development is not expected, the impacts will still be the same for the Carolinas in the form of tropical-type downpours. Over the next 5 to 7 days, rain amounts will likely be in the 2-4” range, but totals up to 6” are possible in some spots.

These heavier pockets of rain could result in some flash flooding, but this threat should remain relatively limited and not become a widespread issue. The good news is no severe storms are expected at this time.

However, with this much rain in the forecast, there’s always that chance that area creeks and rivers could overflow, so be sure to have a plan in place to seek higher ground if you live in one of these flood-prone places.
