Man who fled NC courthouse during trial for child sex crimes found dead in SC

MORRISVILLE, NC (FOXCarolina) -

A man accused of sex crimes involving a child in North Carolina was found dead in South Carolina the day after failing to return to court during his trial.

According to WNCN, Shawn Walters, of Morrisville cut off his ankle monitor and fled the Wake County Courthouse on May 10.

Morrisville police said Walters fled after asking for a bathroom break while the jury was deliberating.

In his absence, the jury found him guilty of 14 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

On the afternoon of May 12, police said officers executing a search warrant at Walters’ parents’ home in Bonneau, SC found Walters dead of an apparent suicide.
