SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Simpsonville police said a student at Hillcrest High School was arrested Wednesday morning after getting into an altercation with the School Resource Officer.

Beth Brotherton, a spokesperson for Greenville County Schools said the incident began when a parent asked the SRO and the school principal for assistance with her daughter during drop off.

"The parent reported that she and her daughter, who is a student at Hillcrest, were involved in a disagreement in the front parking lot.  The student approached the school and during her conversation with the SRO and administration the student was belligerent and refused to calm down," Brotherton stated.

Brotherton said that after repeated warnings, the SRO notified the student that she was under arrest.

"She resisted the SRO and became combative," Brotherton said.  "The SRO had to use force to restrain the student.  Back-up officers responded."

The student eventually detained and was taken to the Greenville County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police said the student was charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery on a police officer while resisting arrest.

The student's name will not be released due to the suspect's age.

No other students or school staff members were involved and classes were operating normally, police said.
