The newsroom is always buzzing with scanners, news tips, ideas and different opinions much like the country. The latest debate has many people listening to a recording where some people hear the word Laurel or Yanny.

"I hear Yanny clear as day," Joe Gagnon said.

Those who work at FOX Carolina participated and gave their opinions.

"This is Laurel over and over," Sarah Danik said.

Many of the employees have different answers.

"Clear as day, I hear Laurel," Ted Phaeton said. "The first time I heard it I heard Yanny, but the second time I heard the recording, I heard Laurel. It's been like that ever since."

The debate is the latest audio viral sensation Laurel or Yanny- a debate started by two friends.

"One of the biggest things is, what kind of hearing loss do you have?" Dr. Page Tucker said.

She's an audiologist with Bon Secours Saint Francis Health System and says there are many factors.

"Laurel is more low-pitch in nature than Yanny. So you would see probably a younger population with normal hearing for the most part," Tucker said.

She says it's also about what we like or expect to hear.

"Is it more of a base you now emphasis is to what you're listening to or more of a treble?" Tucker said.

She says speakers could also play a factor in what we hear.

"Our middle ear space is our ear drum and then past that it goes to the nerve," Tucker said."The nerve is involved with the inner-ear the Cochlea, then it actually goes up to the brain."

So, the debate continues about what is heard when the recording is played.

"It's Yanny," Gagnon said.

"I don't hear Yanny at all," Danik said.

For now, people are at least listening to one another.
