HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office has set up an exchange location to ensure the safety of people who buy items online.

The sheriff's office said the area was created so citizens can feel safe when meeting up to make their transactions.

The exchange location is set up in the parking lot of the sheriff's office on North Grove Street.

"Many people already take advantage of the Sheriff’s Office as a place for conducting internet exchanges. We have parents who meet up for child custody exchanges in our parking lot and to buy items purchased on Facebook, Craigslist and other sites," Major Frank Stout said.

Signs explaining the area is under video recording are displayed in the parking lot. Deputies encourage members of the public to make these exchanges during the daytime.

Establishing a safe meeting place, like our Sheriff’s Office, is a great step in reducing your chance of becoming a victim," Major Stout said.
