OCONEE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA (FOX Carolina) -

A heartbreaking discovery was made as officials with Oconee County Emergency Services searched a second day for a woman who fell into the Whitewater River in Northern Oconee County on Sunday.

Fire Chief Charles King said emergency crews were alerted to the fall shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday

King said a caller reported that a group of four people were at the river and a woman had fallen approximately 70 to 80 feet from the top of the falls. Officials said she was walking alongside the water when she slipped.

Technical rescuers on land and divers in boats on Lake Jocassee assisted with the search operation. Approximately 40 to 50 people were on scene searching the waterfall.  King said limited access, local storms, and high river levels have added to the already complex and dangerous situation.

Search crews were back on scene Monday morning trying once again to locate the victim, King said.

The coroner said shortly before 2 p.m., crews found the woman's body in a pool of water below the falls. She was identified as 18-year-old Anna McCall Mimms. Her birthday was coming up next week, officials said.

After an autopsy, Mimms' cause of death was determined to be blunt force traumatic injuries associated with the fall. Her manner of death was classified as accidental.

According to King, the Lower Whitewater Falls is the final set of waterfalls on the Whitewater River before emptying into Lake Jocassee. He said the falls have a total drop of around 600 feet.

Mimms was a Seneca High graduate and a student at Tri-County Technical College. She was planning to enroll at Clemson University as a sophomore in the fall.

The funeral service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at NewSpring Church in Clemson, SC. The family will receive friends at the church before the service from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
