TRYON, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The American Red Cross said it will begin providing hot meals and supplies Tuesday for people impacted by the deadly mud slide in Polk County.

The disaster relief agency said cleaning supplies, bottled water, and replacement medicines will be offered, as well as other support, at two locations in Tryon daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Friday.

The locations are Harmon Field, located at 117 Harmon Field Road, and Tryon Youth Center, located at 2969 US 176.

A section of US 176 between Tryon and Saluda remained closed Tuesday as crews continued to work to clear mud from the roadway.

Officials said one woman died Friday when the mud slide swept through her home.

At least 40 homes were damaged and roads in the area sustained more than $5 million in damage, officials said.

As of Tuesday morning, crews had removed 3,800 tons of mud and debris .

Officials said the ground remains unstable and state geologists identified two areas of concern. However, those areas are uninhabited.
