Daily rain chances continue into Memorial Day weekend, plus we’re watching the Gulf for possible tropical development.
Scattered showers and storms develop from the east today, mainly in the afternoon and early evening hours. The more favored area for rain and storms may likely be northeast GA into the Upstate. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 70s to lower 80s.
Friday brings similar conditions – the only change is the mountains could see more scattered showers and storms compared to Thursday.
The weekend will become increasingly dependent on the evolution on the area of disturbed weather forecast to emerge into the Gulf by Saturday. There is now a high probability at least a tropical depression will form by this time.
Depending on the strength of this potential system, rain chances will vary from Saturday into Sunday. There should be some periods of dry weather both days, but there also will be scattered tropical-type downpours as well.
Memorial Day Monday and into Tuesday still look to bring the best chance of widespread rain and storms as the Gulf low pressure system moves inland across the Southeast. When all is said and done, most spots in the region should see at least 2-4” of rain.
