SENECA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An Upstate man and woman have been charged in connection with a child abuse case, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.

According to arrest warrants, 22-year-old Christopher Adam Holbrooks was arrested on Sunday and charged with abuse inflicting great bodily injury upon a child.

Warrants said that on May 19, Holbrooks inflicted injury upon a child under the age of 2-years-old, creating a substantial risk of death to the child and causing serious or permanent disfigurement or protracted loss or impairment of the function of any bodily member or organ of the child.

Deputies said the incident took place on Memorial Drive in Seneca.

According to an arrest warrant, Anna Marie Brown was charged with obstructing justice in connection with the case. Deputies said she intentionally fabricated a story and told other members of the family to lie regarding the abuse and neglect of the victim in order to hinder the investigation.

Deputies said Holbrooks was booked into Oconee County Detention Center Sunday and was given a $75,000 surety bond. He was released Tuesday after posting bond.

Brown was also booked into the detention center on Sunday and remains in custody at the Detention Center on a $10,000 surety bond, said deputies.
