Spartanburg County deputies said a man who was wanted for rape in Maryland damaged a patrol car when deputies and US Marshals came to arrest him.

According to Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office incident reports, deputies met US Marshals at the Adidas plant on Falling Creek Road Wednesday to take Ashton Stroud into custody.

Deputies said Stroud stopped following their commands once he was placed in the patrol car and began ordering deputies to “call my mama.”

When deputies tried to close the door of the patrol car, they said Stroud began kicking it, causing damage to the door.

Deputies said Stroud then began shouting “shoot me, kill me, I'm ready to die.”

Deputies were able to place Stroud in leg irons and said the suspect then began slamming his head into the cage inside the vehicle and cut his head.
