ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Friday marks missing baby Leonna Wright's 4th birthday.

Her case has remained open in Anderson County for nearly three years.

"This case right here has been the most impactful case of my heart. Because Leonna has become like my child,  like my baby. I'm actually in love with a child I never even had an opportunity to hold," Traci Fant, Freedom Fighters community activist said.

"What breaking point do you realize how out of your mind you have to be to do something to a defenseless child?" Sheriff Chad McBride said.

Sheriff McBride said he's called upon agencies on a federal level to help out now with the investigation.

"It's not necessarily what you know, it's what you can prove," Sheriff McBride said. He explains a lack of evidence is what is holding up this case. "We think there's a few people out there that know exactly what happened to Leonna."

Anderson County deputies said the child went missing back in June of 2015. The sheriff said she was last seen with Leonna's mother's boyfriend in an apartment. Investigators said there were a few others inside the apartment as well.

Fant said she launched a petition, pushing for the FBI to get involved. She said she is working with an artist from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to create an aged progression photo of Leonna Wright. She said hopefully that will help with tips and leads.

"We desperately want justice for Leonna," Sheriff McBride said.
