Spartanburg Co. response teams with HPA, rescues stranded dance team

SPARTANBURG COUNTY (FOX Carolina) -

On Friday, a group effort took place to rescue 55 dancers who were stranded on a broken down bus on I-85 on their way to Atlanta.

According to the report, the bus experienced a mechanical failure and left them stranded around 12:30 p.m.

The Spartanburg Co. Community Emergency Response Team recognized the North Spartanburg Fire Dept., Spartanburg Regional Transport, High Point Academy, and their sheltering team for setting up an emergency shelter at HPA for the stranded dancers.

The North Spartanburg Fire Dept. first responded and stayed in contact with the team as they tried to arrange a back-up form of transportation for them.

While the team waited, Emergency Management arranged shelter for the dancers as there was no word on when the back-up bus would become available.

At this time, the shelter team volunteers were able to set up a temporary location at High Point Academy, even on such short notice and on a holiday weekend.

Along with supplying shelter, High Point supplied two buses to get the team and their equipment back to HPA safely.

A special thanks was given to all of the volunteers involved and Fatz Cafe for supplying the group with a hot meal right before they departed to Atlanta.

According to the latest report, the dance team made it safely to Atlanta around 10:56 p.m.
