Coroner, SLED investigating death of inmate at Spartanburg County Detention Center

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been requested to assist in the investigation of a woman's death at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.

According to the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office, 38-year-old Kimberly Renee Sexton was found unresponsive on Monday night. After being transported to the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, she was pronounced dead.

Online detention center records indicate she was being held on a bench warrant.

The coroner said an initial exam did not reveal any trauma, however an autopsy and toxicology testing are being conducted.

The coroner directed any further questions about the case to SLED, who is working alongside his agency.
