OCONEE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA (FOX Carolina) -

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office said a death investigation is underway after the discovery of two bodies.

Deputies said they responded to Tammi Lane in Fair Play after a neighbor discovered a body on the property. While on scene, deputies said they discovered a second body.

According to the sheriff's office, animal control also responded to the scene to take control of several dogs found on the property.

Coroner Karl Addis said the victims were two men from Fair Play.

According to Addis, one of the men lived at the incident location, and the other victim was an acquaintance of the homeowner.

The coroner said the homeowner was found dead in the bedroom of his home, and the acquaintance was found dead in the front yard of the home.

The homeowner was identified as Ronald L. Holbrooks, 66. The other decedent was identified as Wesley B. Lothery, 66 of Fair Play.

The coroner's office said Lothery died from blunt force injuries consistent with having been assaulted. His manner of death has been classified as a homicide, the coroner said.

According to the coroner's office, Lothery is presumed to have died on May 24 or May 25.

Addis said a manner of death and cause of death have not been determined for Holbrooks. A toxicology report will have to be completed to determine cause of the death, the coroner said.

Holbrooks had no fatal injuries and is presumed to have died on May 26 or May 27, the coroner said.

The investigation is ongoing.
