ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Mackenzie Harris loves bedtime with her 11-month-old son Bradley.

"I was actually in his room reading him his bedtime story and getting ready for bed," Harris said.

When he's older, she definitely has another story to tell him.

"I heard some people people banging on doors," Harris said."I walked out to our living room and that's when I saw smoke just pouring in through the cracks of our front door.I have to figure out a way to get out of here because that was the only door to go out. Then I heard someone say, you need to come out of your window."

A bystander, recorded Harris in the window of her apartment as flames took over the building.

"I fling it open and I just start yelling 'my baby!' That's all I could think to like say, I couldn't like even get any words out," Harris said. "He's just like throw him and I'll catch him. I have faith in this man that he would catch him even though I didn't know him."

She thought about her family as the smoke continued to fill the apartment and did what any loving mother would do and dropped baby Bradley from the second-floor window.

"I'm so grateful that he was there and that he had that  courage to talk me through it and to catch my son," Harris said."I let my feet go first, but I went into a sort of seated position so as I fell, I could kind of roll back into it to distribute that impact.Just kind of lost it because those flames were huge. I had no idea from being inside the building."

She landed in bushes and has bruises, cuts, and scratches. Bradley has some scratches too and there's some smoke damage inside the apartment. She says she's grateful she's alive to tell this story.
