(Meredith) – A California man allegedly shot and killed his friend during an argument over who would sit in the front seat of a car.
Sergio Orozco and Jalen Wilson, both 19, were leaving a party with one of their friends in Fontana on Sunday when they began to fight over “riding shotgun,” CBS Los Angeles reported.
Witnesses told police the fight escalated when Orozco pulled out a handgun and shot Wilson in the chest.
First responders found the victim in the street and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"They're supposed to be friends. I’m like, friends don't shoot each other over stuff like this," witness Trayton Cooper said in an interview with CBS Los Angeles.
Police said, as far as they could tell, Orozco and Wilson had been friends since their days at Summit High School.
“These are not individuals that you would suspect of being involved in crimes like this,” said Fontana Police Ofc. Jay Sayeh, adding that neither had a criminal history.
Orozco was arrested on suspicion of murder the day after the shooting and is currently being held on a $1.75 million bail, according to online jail records.
His next court hearing is scheduled for next week.
