ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office confirmed on Thursday that a former employee was charged with six counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.

In January the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation said deputy Charles "Josh" Wilhelm was under investigation after a complaint made by another Sheriff's Office employee.

Sheriff Van Duncan fired Wilhelm for violations of general conduct policy.

On Thursday, Wilhelm was arrested on six counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.
