Upstate teen wins 10k scholarship in duct tape tux contest

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greenville County teen is among the has won a competition involving prom attire made from Duck brand duct tape.

Charlie Hyman, a student at Mauldin High School, was one of five national finalists for the Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest.

The contest asks participants to "create and wear to a prom: prom attire consisting of either a complete dress (the “Dress Category”) or a complete tuxedo (the “Tux Category”) and accessories made using Duck® brand duct tape and/or Duck® brand crafting tape."

Hyman won the Tux Grand Prize. His tux used 12 rolls of tape and took 30 hours. 

The first place winners in both the dress and tux categories will were awarded $10,000 each. Eight runners up prizes will were also awarded. View the contest rules here.

Per his contest profile, Hyman said he wanted to create something classic, but also unique. We think he did just that!
