For the first days of summer, relief from the near-record heat arrives in the form of higher rain and storm chances.
Expect a partly to mostly cloudy sky along with isolated to scattered storms in the afternoon and evening. Some could be strong, with a marginal risk for severe weather along the central and eastern Upstate/mountains. Expect highs to reach into the mid-80s to low 90s.
Friday brings this week's best chance for wet and stormy weather. Afternoon highs should finally return to seasonal averages in the upper 80s Upstate and lower 80s in the mountains. Some storms again may be locally strong, with a marginal risk for severe weather across most of the area.
A few leftover showers remain possible on Saturday as a weakening front lingers in the midlands, but much of the day will remain dry. With less rain, heat builds once again into the 80s and lower 90s.
Sunday looks much drier (though not completely dry), as well as hotter with highs rising into the middle 90s in the Upstate thanks to more sunshine.
Monday brings a chance of isolated afternoon storms, but some drier and slightly cooler air moves in toward Tuesday and Wednesday.
