INMAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

No one was hurt when a boat overturned on Lake Bowen in Spartanburg County Tuesday, according to SC DNR.

A man was in a 12-foot boat when it flipped over into its own wake.

DNR and fire crews helped turn the boat back over and get him back in the vessel.

The lake is a Spartanburg Water reservoir.

Spartanburg Water released the tips for staying safe on the lake:

  • Check all personal flotation devices (PFD, i.e. life jackets), make sure they are in good condition, and are the correct sizes for all passengers and accessible whenever out on the lake.
  • Check your fuel, battery, boat lights and boat trailer (lights, tires and tie downs).
  • South Carolina law requires that all children under 12 years of age must wear a PFD if the watercraft is under 16 feet in length and when the motor is running.
  • Never operate a boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Personal watercraft (PWC) may operate only from legal sunrise to legal sunset.
  • When pulling someone on a tube or pulling a skier, you must have a mirror or an observer.
  • Obey all regulatory markers (buoys) - No Wake, Controlled Area and Danger Area.
  • Courtesy boat inspections are available by our wardens upon request.
