GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The City of Greenville said residents near a creek that runs through a city neighborhood should avoid the water.

Officials said on July 11 they received complaints about the creek near Pimlico Court having gray water and an unpleasant odor.

Public Works officials said they discovered the city's wastewater main, which was blocked by grease and roots, was leaking into the creek in the Gower Community.

They are collecting water samples to test the water and repairs are being made to the wastewater main.

Until the results of the water tests are received, signs have been placed on the streets where the creek may be affected. They encouraged residents to avoid contact with the water until it is deemed safe.
