GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Storms swept through the Upstate on Thursday afternoon, leaving thousands in the dark and knocking down lots of trees. Two trees knocked down by the storm landed just feet away from Scott and Tish Fraiser's home on Blue Mountain Drive in Berea. The couple said that their daughter was home when the tree fell and said she got scared when she heard the crashing sound. Some of the Frasier's neighbors also reported damage. In Duncan, residents who live along South Danzler Road said two trees fell, knocking down a power line. They said another tree fell on a house and then landed on a truck."This has happened several times and we're very fortunate that it didn't hit our house or anything else," one of the residents said. "We're just very fortunate that nobody got hurt."Along East North Street in Greenville several trees were uprooted, which took down some power lines in the area. One of the felled trees caught fire."The wind blew (the tree) over into my power lines and yanked them from the house in to the main trunk, which tripped a transformer for the neighborhood," said James Burton, the owner of the tree. The nearby Lakecrest apartment complex also sustained storm damage. Joshua Charles, who was helping clean up the mess left behind, said he is amazed at the power of the storm."I was at the kitchen window looking out and the car was 15 feet away and you couldn't even see it," said Charles. "At one point the rain was coming straight down and instantly it went sideways. There's trees down everywhere."According to Duke Energy's Web site, about 800 people were without power in the Upstate as of 9:30 a.m. The highest number of outages were in Anderson, Greenville and Laurens counties.
