Several counties in Upstate South Carolina and northeast Georgia reported that some creeks were overflowing their banks and some streets were flooded on Wednesday afternoon.

In the Upstate, a FOX Carolina viewer from Berea sent a picture to the FOX Carolina Weather Center that showed a growing pond of muddy water in front of his home. FOX Carolina crews out covering the rainy weather also reported flooding on Hammett Road near Brushy Creek Road in Greenville County. Another crew found water ponding on Anderson Road in Anderson.

Greenville police said that drivers should avoid the Cleveland Park area as many roads were flooded on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials in Hartwell County, Ga., reported that a few county roads were closed as of 3:30 p.m. because of flooding at Coldwater Creek. In Lavonia, Ga., a weather spotter reported that a foot of water was covering Gumlock Drive near Highway 238 at 2:35 p.m.

A flash flood watch remained in effect for all of Upstate South Carolina, northeast Georgia and Macon, southern Jackson, Transylvania, Henderson, Polk, Rutherford and McDowell counties in western North Carolina. The watch is in effect until Wednesday night.

The weather service reminded drivers that if they come across a water-covered roadway, they should turn around and find an alternate route to their destination.

FOX Carolina chief meteorologist Kendra Kent said that the low-pressure system that caused all the heavy rain on Wednesday will continue moving to the northeast and out of the area. She said that there are still a few lingering showers behind the system, but nothing like what the area saw during much of the day.

Kent said that by the time the rain ends early Thursday morning, some locations may have received as much as 3 inches of precipitation.

Kent said that skies will clear on Thursday, but cold air moves in on Friday. She said that the clouds return on Saturday along with a chance for snow in the mountains and a mixture of rain and snow in the Upstate.
