Cleanup From Winter Storm Continues
10,000 Still Without Power, Duke Energy Says

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Some locations are still cleaning up the mess that was left behind by the weekend winter storm.According to Duke Energy's Web site, about 10,000 customers are still without power on Monday morning. The highest concentration of outages was in Swain, Jackson, Graham and Macon counties. The site said that crews are working around the clock to repair the lines in that area.Western North Carolina was the area hardest hit by this weekend's winter storm.The National Weather Service said that Asheville picked up about 7.5 inches of snow. Sunshine in Rutherford County picked up about 9.5 inches of snow and Mars Hill in Madison County picked up about 10 inches of snow, the weather service said.Totals in the upstate ranged from about 3 inches of snow in Travelers Rest in Greenville County to about 0.10 inches of freezing rain in Inman in Spartanburg County.Road crews were still working to clear the roads in most locations in western North Carolina on Monday morning, while warmer temperatures in the Upstate allowed for most of the accumulated wintry precipitation to melt. There were some reports of black ice on Monday morning as Sunday's melt froze overnight.North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue said that four people have been killed by the winter storm across the state. So far, only one death related to the winter weather has been reported.FOX Carolina meteorologist Andy Wood said temperatures on Monday should warm into the middle 40s, allowing for more melt during the day. He said that rain is expected on Tuesday. Another chance for wintry weather is forecast for the end of the week.
