WARE SHOALS, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Troopers with Highway Patrol said a driver who was attempting to run from law enforcement is dead after crashing in Ware Shoals Thursday night.

The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office said at 10:12 p.m., the driver was heading north on Highway 25 at a high rate of speed when he crossed of the southbound lane, ran off the left side of the road, and hit a tree.

The driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was identified as 28-year-old Austin Chandler Shirley.
