GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Greenville County Coroner’s Office said an Upstate man was killed during an overnight shooting involving deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Greenville Police Department.

According to officials, deputies were called around 12:40 a.m. on Friday to Airport Road for a person who had multiple firearms and had fired shots in the parking lot of the Trophy Club.

Upon arrival, the sheriff’s office said deputies and at least one officer with city police found 57-year-old Matthew Edward Healey in the parking lot. An officer-involved shooting took place resulting in the suspect sustaining injuries. He was taken to Prisma Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Healey was an Upstate dentist according to the Associated Press. Records from the South Carolina Board of Dentistry show his license was suspended in January.

Officials said at least that one deputy and one officer discharged their firearms during the incident but no one from law enforcement was injured.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been requested to investigate the incident.

The sheriff’s office said it will release a critical incident community briefing on Oct. 30 at 8:30 a.m. to provide further details of the incident.
