Getting Answers: Old Denver School Rd
ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Fox Carolina is getting answers about your Upstate road concerns.
This week, we are checking out a bumpy road in Anderson County.
Old Denver School Road is just off Exit 19 on Interstate 85.
Viewers asked us if all of the potholes will ever be fixed.
Ron wrote in, “The road has not been resurfaced in 26 years! It’s a major road in this area, and is nothing but potholes and patchwork.”
Long-time resident, David Black agrees. He moved to Old Denver School Road four decades ago and said he can’t remember the last time the road had fresh pavement.
“You kind of have to wiggle around the potholes,” David Black said, “They haven’t paved this road one good time since I’ve been here.”
With a huge pothole in front of his driveway, Black said the road is getting worse by the day.
“All the traffic, the potholes ain’t going to stay filled,” Black said, “Sometimes, in the middle of the night you hear a tractor trailer will go by and go into a hole and it sounds like a shotgun going off.”
He said crews with South Carolina Department of Transportation fill in the holes, but it only lasts for a few days.
“When it rains or gets cold or freezes, it just beats it back out. I have seen them last a week or two. They just don’t last,” Black said.
The two-and-a-half mile stretch is heavily traveled. It’s a main route for people working at the nearly Michelin Plant in Anderson.
“It’s pretty heavy and they need to take all that in consideration with improving the road,” Black said.
Black is waiting for something to be done. “You wouldn’t be running all over the road trying to miss the holes and it would be safer for your car by not tearing up the front end.”
He said SCDOT needs to take another look at this road.
“It’s been needing paving for quite a while,” Black said, “It seems they keep putting it off and don’t pave it like some of the others.”
DOT tells us no upcoming projects are scheduled for this road.
We will continue following up and working to get answers.
