WESTMINSTER, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Oconee County Coroner’s Office said a worker was hit and killed by a truck in a highway resurfacing construction zone in Westminster Wednesday morning.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, at 9 a.m., a dump truck was backing up on Highway 11 when it hit the worker.

Officials said the worker was hit by a truck that was owned by King Asphalt were the victim was employed.

The coroner identified the victim as 58-year-old Joe Milton Bridges, Jr.

Highway Patrol and the South Carolina State Transport Police are investigating the incident.
