Police: Palmetto High student arrested after assistant principal finds gun in bag
WILLIAMSTON, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Williamston Police said a student was arrested after the Palmetto High School assistant principal found a gun in the teens’ bag on Thursday.
According to police, a teacher overheard two students using violent rhetoric. The conversation revolved around a bag one of the students was carrying.
The teacher had the the students taken to the conference room to speak with assistant principal Darryl Imperati.
Imperati searched the bag of the student and found a Glock .380 firearm wrapped in a pair of sweatpants.
The school resource office took the student and weapon into custody.
The student was ordered to be detained at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia pending the outcome of the criminal charges:
- Possession of a firearm by minor
- Possession of a firearm on school property
Proceedings will be held in Family Court in Anderson.
