COLUMBUS, Ohio (Meredith) -- Police are searching for a suspect who was caught on surveillance video stealing a gun from the dead body of a man who had just crashed his motorcycle.
Bradley Bethel, 25, was killed the morning of Sept. 2 when he lost control of his motorcycle and hit a building.
In surveillance video, an SUV is seen pulling up to the accident scene before first responders arrived. The driver gets out of the car, lifts Bethel's arm and steals a Kel-Tec 9mm handgun from his holster.
The suspect then stayed on the scene as first responders arrived and was even seen talking with them.
Bethel's father told WBNS that while he is mourning the loss of his son, the pain is even worse because a witness chose to steal from his son instead of call for help.
"It's bad enough I lost my son in this tragic accident. But for this reprehensible excuse of a human being to come up and violate him and desecrate his body in the last seconds of his life is almost beyond my ability to explain," father Brian Bethel said.
Police are searching to identify the suspect so they can close the case and provide closure to the Bethel family.
If you have any information about the suspect, please call the Columbus Division of Police at (614) 645-2127 or email Detective Jamie Thomas at email@example.com.
