Troopers: Man dead after 3 wheeler crashed into tree in Laurens County

The coroner has released the name of a man who died after a crash in Spartanburg County Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred on SC-9 near Lakewood Street at 2:11 p.m.

According to troopers, a GMC SUV was traveling on SC-9 when a 2016 Chevy coupe tried to enter the roadway and struck the SUV.

Troopers said the driver of the SUV was injured and transported to the hospital. There were two juvenile passengers in the SUV who were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the Chevy died from his injuries at the hospital.

On Tuesday, the coroner identified the victim as James William Owens Sr., 78, of Coastline Drive in Inman.
