What his family has to say about the incident

OCONEE, SC (FOX Carolina) - The body of a 24-year-old man who was reported missing on Veteran's Day has been found, according to the Oconee County Coroner's Office.

The coroner says Austin Wade Campbell was found dead in a body of water known as Upper Whitewater Lake in Tamassee at 1 p.m.

The coroner said the physical location is located in proximity of his home.

A family member told deputies that they had not had any contact with Campbell since Wednesday morning. The family member said Campbell left the family residence along Catfish Pond Road on foot at around 10:00 a.m. but never returned. They added that he does not have a vehicle or a cell phone.

Campbell's mom Pam Campbell told us, “I haven't heard nothing and nobody has seen or heard from him since Wednesday afternoon.”

Deputies described Campbell as 6 feet tall and around 220 pounds. He has brown eyes and recently shaved his head bald, according to deputies. Campbell's information was entered into the National Crimes Information Center database, according to deputies.

“He would always find a phone or walk to somebody’s house to get a ride if he needed to," Campbell's sister Brittney Campbell said.  "That’s why we think something is so wrong because  he has not gotten in contact with us. He has never just ran off, even on the worst days he’s always stayed in contact.”

Deputies said they searched several areas in Tamassee but were unable to find Campbell.

“Just come forward and let us know if something happened to him or if he’s okay because it’s not fair having to go to sleep at night wondering where he is,” Brittney Campbell said.
