The Cherokee County Coroner confirms, a South Carolina woman died late Saturday night after falling from a motorcycle and being run over by another vehicle.

The incident took place on Cherokee Street near downtown Blacksburg at 11:55 p.m.

The coroner says the woman was a passenger on a motorcycle that was heading east on Cherokee Street when she fell off in the 400 block. She was then struck by an eastbound pick-up truck that was pulling a trailer hauling a race car, the coroner said.

Per the coroner, the woman was not wearing a helmet during the incident and sustained severe head trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was identified as Jessica Payton Dennis, 26 of Clover, SC.

The driver of the motorcycle fled the scene, but has since been identified by the coroner and Blacksburg Police. No word on charges.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday to assist with the ongoing investigation.

This is the 7th traffic-related death in Cherokee County this year.
