An Upstate woman was killed in an early morning collision on Saturday in Laurens County after troopers say the other car involved crossed the center line.
Troopers confirmed, the collision took place on SC 39 near Smithville Road at approximately 1:38 a.m.
They said a 62-year-old driving a Dodge pick-up truck was traveling north on SC 39 while a second driver in a 2000 Volkswagen traveled south on SC 39. The driver in the pick-up truck then crossed the center line and the two vehicles struck, troopers say.
As a result, the coroner said 30-year-old Brittney Byrd of Laurens was pronounced dead on scene at approximately 1:38 a.m. Byrd was the driver in the Volkswagen.
The coroner said Byrd died due to multiple blunt force trauma. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision was was entrapped, troopers say.
The driver in the pick-up truck was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, but was entrapped and flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital. No word on the driver's condition.
This crash remains under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol MAIT team.
