Coroner identifies man dead after hit by train in Cherokee Co.


The Cherokee County Coroner said a motorcyclist died Thursday, days after a collision in Gaffney.

The coroner identified the victim as George Hackthorne of Blacksburg

The collision occurred Sunday night.

According to the coroner's office, Hackthorne drove into a grass median island on Highway 18, striking a 2011 Chevrolet pick-up. Hackthorne was not wearing a helmet and sustained head injuries, the coroner said.

He was transported to Spartanburg Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries, the coroner said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
