Authorities confirm one person was fatally shot outside a shopping center in Anderson Monday evening.

Anderson City Police, EMS, the Anderson County Coroner and a few Sheriff's Deputies responded to the scene on Liberty Highway. The call came in at 7:20 p.m.

The Anderson City Police Chief said officers responded to the Walmart on Liberty Highway next to the Sam's Club for a shoplifting in progress. When they arrived on scene, they said the armed suspect had left the Walmart and went behind the Sam's Club.

Officers located the suspect behind the Sam's Club and the coroner says when they approached him, he pulled out a gun and shot himself in the head.

He was transported to Anmed, but died on arrival.

The coroner says the subject was a 23 year old from Easley.

He said it doesn't appear that officers were involved in the shooting, but they did witness it.

SLED was called in to investigate.

Officials are talking to witnesses and obtaining video.

The chief said this was an isolated incident.
