South Carolina’s Department of Juvenile Justice is investigating allegations of abuse at a camp in Union County.

DJJ officials said the incident reportedly took place at Camp White Pines on Sunday.

The camp is operated by AMIKids, a private company, officials said.

According to the DJJ website, the camp is one of many alternative marine, wilderness, and special treatment facilities that provide group home services for juveniles on transfer, probation, or parole.

AMIKids said the White Pines facility in Jonesville reopened in 2015 "to serve kids who are experiencing relational or behavioral problems and are not able to function successfully in a less restrictive community environment and provide them the additional care and individualized attention needed to transform their lives."

Officials said the investigation was ongoing and that further details of the allegations could not be released at the time.
