Deputies are investigating after a victim reported some items stolen from his business in Spartanburg.

According to an incident report from Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened between 4 p.m. June 2 and 7:13 a.m. June 4 at D&K Lumber, on the 2400 block of Greenpond Road in Woodruff.

The victim told deputies that an unknown person entered the business through a second floor window some time over the weekend, and stole an antique musket rifle and safe that had been bolted to the floor.

"They tore it up and everything was gone out of it," said Daniel Bryant. "The safe had about $400 in it."

The victim said the stolen safe also contained personal and business documents.

"They got my deeds, my will and all my titles and everything," Bryant said.

The owner said he locked the door behind him when he left Saturday evening, and when he returned Monday for work the evidence was clear. He said the office was ransacked. When he put two and two together, he ran to check on the gun.

Bryant said the antique was near and dear to his heart, given to him by a close friend.

"He came up here one day and said I'm going to let you keep my gun," Bryant recalls.

He said that friend died a year ago. The gun was the last momento he had of him.

"I guess it's just heartbreaking to have someone steal things you worked for all your life or something so close to your heart," Bryant said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office.
