The Spartanburg County Coroner along with deputies are conducting a homicide investigation after an incident they say occurred in the parking lot of an Upstate club.

Deputies say they responded to Club Icon on Southport Road at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday.

When they arrived they located a male who was lying down in the parking lot. They said he was unconscious and had suffered from what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

EMS arrived and transported the man to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Per Coroner Rusty Clevenger, his office was called to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center where they found 31-year-old Tavis Kendrell Jeter of Woodruff.

Jeter was pronounced dead at 4:52 a.m.

Through an investigation, Jeter's girlfriend, with whom he shares two children, was developed as a suspect. She was identified as Brittany Tiera Browning.

A short time later, Browning arrived at the Woodruff Police Department to turn herself in. She was then transported to the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office where she later confessed to shooting Jeter during a dispute in the parking lot of Club Icon., deputies said.

Browning was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine a cause of death.
