The Lauren's County Sheriff's Office said no charges will be filed in the shooting death of a man found in a pool of blood.

Deputies said they responded to a call regarding a shooting on the 100 block Colonial Acres Road around 12:45 a.m. on Nov. 5. When they arrived on scene they found a male victim laying in a pool of blood with at least one gunshot wound, the coroner confirmed.

The coroner identified the victim as 35-year-old Michael Eric McCraney of Laurens. After an autopsy Monday, McCraney's death was ruled a homicide. The coroner said he suffered a gunshot wound to the neck.

After an investigation, the Laurens County Sheriff's Office said it was determined McCraney's death was justifiable homicide. Investigators determined the shooting was in self-defense.

Per Chief Jarvis Reeder, one of McCraney's family members acted in self-defense to protect another family member from McCraney.

No further details were released.
