The Anderson County Sheriff's Office and EMS were dispatched to a bizarre call on Tuesday.

Deputies said around 11 a.m., dispatchers received a call reporting that a person was holding a human eyeball on near South Main Chapel on South Main Street.

Deputies, who assisted EMS at the scene, said the injury was self-inflicted and the woman is receiving medical treatment.

"Most of our deputies have never seen anything like that," Sheriff Chad McBride said. "It took two or three of our guys and two ENTs I believe to kind of subdue her enough for them to start rendering aid."

Jean Stutler, the wife of the South Main Chapel pastor, said the incident was traumatic for everyone at the church who witnessed it. Witnesses had a debriefing with the hospital chaplain, Stutler said.

No charges will be filed in the case.
