Anderson County deputies said two men are accused of fleeing from deputies and during the chase, a woman was thrown from their car.

Deputies said about noon on Saturday, a car was stolen and then spotted along Hall Street, but when officers tried to stop it, the driver took off.

The suspects stopped when a female passenger was thrown from the car and injured, deputies said. They said she was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and may have been hit by the car in the incident.

The car took off again and was stopped on Owen Drive by Anderson police officers, deputies said. The driver, 47-year-old McKinney Gillard, was taken into custody on charges of failure to stop and driving under suspension, but deputies said they learned 60-year-old Jason Thompson had also been in the car and ran away on foot.

Thompson had outstanding bench warrants for failure to appear, deputies said.

Both men were arrested and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature due to the woman's injuries. Gillard was also charged with use of a vehicle without permission, taking the car involved from relative without permission, according to deputies.
