Authorities were called to the scene of a bear in a Spartanburg County yard on Tuesday.

The Boiling Springs Fire Department said the bear was seen along Parris Bridge Road. Firefighters said the bear was contained and authorities were working to corral the bear and safely relocate it.

The Department of Natural Resources was also en route to the scene.

Shortly after 2:40 p.m. DNR said they used a dart to tranquilize the small, 75-pound male bear in a tree. Officials were concerned about the bear's safety since the tree it was in was located near a busy roadway.

The bear seemed to have been pushed out of its territory, DNR said. It is being relocated to the mountains.

The bear was first spotted Monday night.

Spartanburg School District 2 said the road was being blocked near Shoally Creek Elementary.
