On Friday, family, friends and the Buncombe County firefighting community will say goodbye to Chief Richard Sales of the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department, who was killed in a single-vehicle crash on April 8.

The Asheville Fire Department said the 52-year-old had served with Reynolds Fire for 31 years and had been the chief of the agency for a decade.

Sales was involved in a collision around 9 a.m. along I-40 in Iredell County, NC and succumbed to injuries from the crash.

According to his obituary, Sales was on his way to a safety conference in Wilmington, NC to accept an award for the Reynolds Fire Department.

A procession for was held on Tuesday when his body was carried from Baptist Hospital in Wake Forest to the Anders Rice Funeral Home in Asheville.

A visitation service was held on Thursday, April 12 at Biltmore Baptist Church. The funeral will be at Biltmore Baptist Church on Friday at 10 a.m.

After the funeral, another procession will accompany Sales' casket from the church to to the cemetery at Gashes Creek Baptist Church, located at 308 Gashes Creek Road in Asheville.

The procession route is as follows: Leaving Biltmore Church onto Clayton Rd to NC 191 headed north on the Blue Ridge Pkwy, exit Blue Ridge Parkway onto US-74. The procession will travel east to Charles A.
